Spiderman (Tom Holland), his Identity as Peter Parker revealed in a previous movie, talked Doctor Strange into erasing his name from everyone's mind in the world, including his best Friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) and his girlfriend, M.J. (Zendaya). Now he finds himself lonely and missing his friends desperately. He continues to swing through the high places of New York City, helping his new friend Police Detective Jean DeWolf (Sheila Rivera) to chase down and capture the criminals of the City. He is called to action when a tank breaks into the Department of Damage Control because the driver had been telepathically possessed. The pursued telepath pops from body to body in the City to escape Spiderman in a dizzying scene.
Ned and M.J. have moved back to New York and do not recognize him, but he keeps bumping into them. One day, Peter finds that he has changed. His senses are even more enhanced, and organic webs are coming out of his wrists that are incompatible with the artificial web-machines he has created. This is a joke on a controversy in the history of Spiderman movies, in which some webs were organic and others mechanical, each side accusing the other of being unrealistic. But we are left with the idea that the psychic attacks are responsible.
He tracks down an enhanced criminal named Mac Gargan (Michael Mando), also known as Scorpio, who wears an enhanced suit of armor with a huge scorpion tail. The director of Damage Control, Bill Metzger, knows nothing. The telepath mocks Spiderman and he responds with unusual violence, beating Gargan brutally and injuring a policeman, so Peter goes to Bruce Banner, or the Hulk, (Mark Rufalo) for answers and learns about the unreliability of his various inhibitors. The telepath finds M.J. and possesses her. He tricks Parker into revealing his face to her.
Parker takes M.J. to the hideout of his on/off friend Frank Castle (John Bernthal) or The Punisher, hoping to keep her safe there. M.J. says she can't remember anything when she is possessed and Paeter begins to realize that the DODC office has been lying to him. He learns that psychic Jean Grey (Sadie Sink) is the telepath. She triggers the Hulk in Bruce Banner, who nearly kills Spiderman in one of the major fight-scenes. M.J. figures out that Spiderman is Peter Parker as her psychic attacks reveal him to her, and he bonds with her again.
Jean Grey has a psychic sister named Sara (Olivia Booth-Ford) who had been kidnapped by the DODC. In her rage, she assaults New York with her psychic powers. The DODC boss, Metzger, is experimenting on Jean Grey's mind. She takes control of the group's Ninja warriors and they nearly take out Spiderman, but he uses his natural Spidey powers against them. But he allows her to enter his mind and she finds the memory of Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) who calms her down. Castle is trying to take her out with a powerful rifle, but Spiderman puts himself in the line of fire. He wakes up in the hospital, where Castle apologizes and pretends to be him in the window so the people of New York can scream their love for Spiderman as escapes quietly. He introduces himself to Ned again with their secret handshake.
The film was directed by Destin Danil Crettin and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Tom Holland is in Spiderman and its main rival at the box office, The Odyssey, at the same time. The film was well received and popular, after a period in the doldrums for Marvel Pictures. It had the second-biggest opening weekend of all time and received 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. It is supposed to be the first of a new Spidey Trilogy. Tom Holland, who had said he could not play Spiderman at 30, is having second thoughts. Some of the best fight scenes were created by Jackie Chan's Stunt Team.
Zendaya complained that her older character as written as too normal in this picture and they put back her little quirks. The chemistry between Peter and M.J. Is one of the best things in the picture. Holland and Zendaya are actually husband and wife. The Punisher character goes way back to the earliest Marvel Movies. The character first appeared in The Amazing Spiderman, Vol. 1 #129 in February 1974. He provides a great foil to Peter Parker—one is not certain whether he's a good guy or a bad guy at first, like some of the best characters in Marvel.
